Study - Gender-affirming hormone therapy improves mental health outcomes for trans and non-binary adolescents

Puberty blockers and hormone therapy increased life satisfaction and decreased depression and anxiety in 315 trans and non-binary 12-20-year-olds over two years in this study. Two-thirds of those with starting depression no longer qualified as having depression after two years of treatment. 38.5% of those with anxiety no longer qualified as having anxiety.

Dr. Neuman says: A long-awaited study with results likely to surprise no one doing this work. Studies like this one, proving huge differences in mental health outcomes, low risk of side effects, and no/very low-risk regret, are one of many parts of the reason why I prescribe these medications. Unfortunately, treatment for only those 18 and older will likely remain legal in Georgia due to Senate Bill 140 (SB140). This bill will hurt people. Please call your governors/state senators and feel free to disseminate this message.
